Is St. Ives Apricot Scrub bad for your skin?

My best friend is an aesthetician. She says that St. Ives Apricot Scrub is one of the worst things on the market for your skin. Something about how the little scrubby things will tear your skin up. I don't believe her. I use it and I think it's great stuff. Does anyone know anything about this?

Is St. Ives Apricot Scrub bad for your skin?
Your friend is right, actually. The apricot kernels are far too harsh for everyday use, and I'd hesitate to use it even once a week. The problem is that the damage typically isn't noticeable until you've been using it for a while; it makes your skin easily irritated and actually more prone to breakouts.

There are far, far better exfoliants out there.
Reply:no. they dont tear it up. they EXFOLIATE it. they take off the dead skin. i use it. it works really well. it dosent even dry out your skin like most exfoliaters do. i would reccomend it.
Reply:uhm. the sandy stuff exfoiliates and takes away dead skin. not bad at alll
Reply:I did get scatch marks on my face after using it once. 2nd time I tried it to be sure, my face was red.

It was only product I used. I did not mix and match any other acne control facial washes.

Heard baking soda should work better and be nicer to the skin. 1 tspn to some warm water and rub around on face and rinse off cool water.
Reply:wellll i have had many discussions about exfoliators like this one before!! Your friend is right, in a way, but hear me out. I have really really dry skin, so i only use a reeeally gentle exfoliator about once a week. For someone with normal skin then using an exfoliator once every couple of days is good, as it gets rid of dead skin which could be clogging up your pores and makes your skin far fresher and cleaner. The ways you can make sure you don't damage your skin with exfoliators are these:

1) Choose the right one. You seem to be pretty sure that st ives is right for you, and if it makes your skin soft, smooth, and not irritated then i'm sure it is! For people with very sensitive skin only a gentle one should be used so not to damage delicate skin.

2) Don't overuse it or scrub too hard. Use it every couple of days and DON'T scrub it into your face too hard!! As you seem pleased with the results of the stuff i doubt you are one of the people who do, but if you scrub your face viciously with an exfoliator it leaves your skin red and sore - doing far more harm than good. This is kinda what your friend means, but i reckon she's overreacting......

Hope you convince her!!!
Reply:no its not bad! the little "scrubby" things are also in alot of other skin products, and help exfoliate your skin in the shower. Actually, its GOOD for you, because you don't want your skin clogged up with all those dead cells! yeah, don't listen to your friend. you're fine =]
Reply:I use it nearly every day and it has worked wonders for my skin! Just don't scrub to hard.
Reply:It may not be good for everyday use but I personally use St. Eves because they dont test on animals and are a earth friendly company. I love the soft scrub bath products and have been comlimented on my skin. If it works for you then I wouldnt worry!
Reply:my friends use it and it helps their skin stay nice, smooth, and and soft.
