Apricot poodle turn white?

I have an apricot poodle and im scared he is going to turn white. I bought him because his color is similar to the poodle I recently lost. I don't want him to turn white because white is not my preference. I've only had him for two days but he already knows me and I like him a lot. But will he turn white? My toy poodle of 15 was apricot and never turned white but I dont know what color his parents were. But since my new poodle mom is white, he will probably turn white right? Tell me what you think. It is important to realize with all standard poodles, (and I believe all poodles for that matter )that color will often change. Some breeders may not inform people of this fact. There are reputable Breeders working hard at eliminating what is sometimes called, "the fading gene." Understanding this truth about color will help prepare you when you pick your puppy based on a particular color. The color of the pup you take home at eight weeks may fade or even perhaps darken (not usually) over time.

No breeder can or should guarantee color unless they are breeding true blacks to true blacks and whites to whites. It is impossible to make any sure guarantees with the other colors. Many people are misled or misinformed and then disheartened as they see the color of their puppy change.

Reply:is the color of the coat go all the way to the skin. if not then it will turn a cream color. i just depends on the back ground of the parents color.
Reply:Flo! Congratulations!!! I am so glad that you found your puppy..I raised poodles for many years..mostly apricot and white ones. The ones that were apricot by the time they were weaned, stayed apricot. Your puppy may yet lighten a bit, or darken a bit..but the apricot will stay there..Most of the apricots tended to darken with maturity, rather than lighten.

My male was a white dog, as were most of the females. However, they all had a lot of apricot in their lineage, and most litters had one apricot..

the upside to raising white poodles with strong apricot backgrounds, was the great pigment on the white ones. However, the downside, was that we had several that would develop an apricot saddle or darker ears as they matured..this would just keep getting darker..
Reply:I have an Apricot Labradoodle (half Lab half Poodle). When his hair gets long, the apricot disappears. I do not have the time to comb him as regularly as I would like. He gets regular cuts and baths. This brings back the Apricot. When your dogs hair gets long, look below the coat if the Apricot is not apparent.



I do not believe the color of a dog changes, unless it is a female and has the ability to dye her hair.



Regardless, The dog should be loved for the dog itself. If it turns purple, you should love it and treat it as a friend and companion.
