My question is.. At her age is it possible to rename her and her learn it? If so (crossing my fingers) I would love any suggestions on female names only thing it has to start with the letter M.... Thanks!!!
Well we got her. She is an apricot mini poodle and a doll. She is 2 years old and they named her Princess..?
Yes, if you are consistent, my dog answers to all sorts of names, nick names mostly but plenty of shelters rename dogs they find, so when you decide on a name practice calling her by it and when she responds, even if it's just to look at you, reward immediately she'll soon learn.
Names beginning with M...hmmmm

Reply:Sure, it's easy to teach a dog a new name. Here's how: Sit with the dog and wait until her attention is on something other than you. Once that happens, say her new name until she looks you in the eye (you can direct her attention at first by pointing or another sound along with the name), once she looks, praise her and give her a treat. Repeat the process until she looks at you as soon as you say her name every time. It took me literally 30 minutes to teach my dogs their names that way and it stuck. Every so often to reinforce their rapt attention to you every time you call their name, call their name for no other reason than to give them a favorite treat. Works great!
I have always found that if you give it a few days or so, once a dog's unique personality and habits start to surface, they kind of name themselves. Have a great life with your new pup!
Reply:yes you can rename her. Many people adopt dogs from a shelter and have no idea what the original owners called the dog.
Dogs learn to adapt to new surroundings quite well... she will soon figure out that you call her something different.

Reply:Most people recommend to people who have rescued their dog to change their names. It associates the new life with a fresh beginning. Just start calling her that and she'll probably get the hang of it. Most people do rename their rescue. I think her name is up to you- you really need to meet the dog, not just read about her, but meet her to get the right name.
Reply:It is fine for you to change her name. It will just take her a while to learn the new one. Chances are (if you got her from a shelter) that was not her name to begin with.
Tony- what is with you and your crazy answers? =]
Reply:She should be fine. Her whole life is changing, a different name is going to be the least of her concerns. Just use her new name a lot at the beginning.
Reply:it probly will be 2 late 2 rename her but it is worth trying if u really dont like the name lol
