Why is't that Apricots,Strawberry and other flavours are called Jam while Marmalade flavor isn't called Jam?

i'm lead to belive that...

Marmalade = A clear, jellylike preserve made from the pulp and rind of fruits, especially citrus fruits.

Jam = A preserve made from whole fruit boiled to a pulp with sugar

Jelly = A fruit product made by boiling sugar and the juice of fruit

Why is't that Apricots,Strawberry and other flavours are called Jam while Marmalade flavor isn't called Jam?
Because marmalades are made with the rind (or skin) of the fruit....the others are soft fruits.....in marmalades, they add a lot of sugar to counteract the bitterness imparted by the skin of say, an orange......Enjoy!!

Reply:I believe Marmalade is a British word, jam is American.
Reply:Ha ha good question! It must be to do with something that's in it or way it's made 'cause you can get ginger jam and ginger marmalade for example (marmalade isn't laways orange)
Reply:jam is 50 percent sugar 50 percent whole fruit.

jelly is only made with juice, and sometimes has added gelatin or pectin.

marmalade is the name for the english jelly with rinds that the English make with citrus fruit. it isn't a general name.
Reply:First made in "Marmala" in Seville, famous for it's oranges.
Reply:Marmalade is the German word for jam, I believe... just a language oddity?
Reply:marmalade is is a conserve while jam is not a heading for that type of food
Reply:Marmalade is actually a very specific jam-like food. It comes from the word marmelada. Marmelada is the Portuguese word derived from marmelo, describing a quince conserve/preserve/jam. A "quince" is a fruit that is very similar to an orange.

So marmalade is like jam, but it's traditionally supposed to be made from the quince fruit. Jam can be made from lots of stuff.

Here's an article from the BBC about marmalade:

Reply:Jams are generally made with just one fruit whereas Marmalade is made with the peel of lemon and oranges, and other fruit of that type.
