Just wondering if I'm eating the right fruits?

I'm a 13 year old vegetarian and my mum doesn't think I'm eating the right fruit. She says I need to eat more fresh fruit and eat lots of it but your only meant to have two serves a day.

Some of the fruits or things with fruit I might have are:

dried apricots, tomatoes, fruit yoghurt, orange juice(fresh or supermarket bought), sultanas in my muesli, banana and orange.

In one day I might have mueslie with sultanas, orange juice, a tomato and tow small fruit yoghurts and then my mum will still want me to eat an orange or banana or something on top of what I've already had.



She also says I should eat apples because they are good for you and I should eat some different fruits.



IS what I'm eating alright? Should I eat more fruit or fresh fruit?

Do I need to eat apples?

First of all you shouldnt have more then 2 servings of fruit a day vegetarian or not. they are high in natural sugar and if you consume too much will turn into fat. another thing to remember is orange juice is good for you but eating an actual orange is more nutritous for you. i like apples so i would say to eat them but if you dont like them there are obviously many other fruit you can eat. For example in one day eat an orange, 1/2 cup of dried apricots and a 1/2 cup blueberries or whatever kind of berries you like. another thing is yogert is dairy even if its fruit flavored. it will help to add to your fruit intake but not significantly.. hope this all helps!
Reply:Honestly, your mom is right. You need to have alot of fresh fruits (and vegetables.) Dried fruits and orange juice isn't a sufficient source. You're 13, so fruits (and I can't stress vegetables enough!) are completely necessary. I don't know where you read that you need only two, because as a vegetarian, you need at least 2 servings a day! You should eat fresh fruits generously. Fruit yogurts will barely put in a sufficient amount of fruit either. As for the apples, they are very good for you!

Your mom is right, you're not "wrong," but just a little misdirected. Just hop back on the right track, eat a little more fruits each day!

Reply:Hi Shivi, Yes what you are eating is okay. But you need to eat fresh fruit apples,grapes, mangos,oranges,bananas,anykind of melons,cherry,and berries and different kinds of 100% fruit juices.Different kinds of nuts are also good for you.

Reply:Just switch around and eat a good variety.

Instead of just one fruit sometimes, Eat a few grapes, a few strawberries , enough that ir adds up to one fruit.
Reply:It's probably good to eat different fruits and fresh ones from time to time for two reasons. One, you'll get a more varied collection of vitamins. Two, if you're going to stay vegetarian, you'll appreciate later that you've learned to like many different fruits (and vegetables).
