Does anyone have a recipe for Orchard Bread?

A Kansas City bakery makes a wonderful dense and sweet loaf its calls Orchard bread. The ingredients include organic wheat flour, levain, apricots, apples, raisins, walnuts, sea salt, yeast and malt. The loaf gets very dark on the outside, but it does not have a burned taste and the crumb is sturdy, but not too heavy. I've not had any luck finding any recipies like this bread. This is a yeast bread, but my searches for these ingredients have brought up mainly quick bread recipes. The bakery is only open three days a week and is far from my home (it used to work nearby and got hooked), so I'd like to be able to make something close to this loaf myself at home.

Pour batter into a greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3-inch loafpan.

Cool in pan 10 minutes.

Remove from loafpan and cool completely.
Reply:The answer panel got this one wrong. The question was looking for a bread, not a quick bread. No one provided the right answer, but this clearly was not the best. Report It
Reply:If you'd like, you can add half the apricots and then half apples to make this recipe more interestting. This wasthe closest thing to your idea of the recipe I found.

Apricot Walnut Loaf

Original recipe yield:

1 - 1 pound loaf

PREP TIME 15 Min

COOK TIME 30 Min

READY IN 3 Hrs 20 Min

INGREDIENTS

1 egg

3/4 cup water

1 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil

1 1/2 tablespoons honey

1/2 cup rye flour

2 1/2 cups bread flour

1 teaspoon orange zest

1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom

2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk powder

1 teaspoon active dry yeast

2 tablespoons chopped walnuts, toasted

1/2 cup dried apricots, diced

1/4 cup apricot preserves

DIRECTIONS

Place all ingredients except preserves, walnuts, and apricots into bread machine in the proper order for your machine. Use dough cycle. As the bread kneads, adjust the liquid to flour ratio if needed.

At the end of the dough cycle, remove dough and place on floured board. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.

Roll out into a rectangle, brush with apricot preserves, and sprinkle walnuts and apricots on top. Roll up into a loaf, place in greased bread pan, cover, and let rise for 45 minutes.

At the end of the rising time, slash down the center, brush with a little beaten egg or egg substitute and milk, and bake in a preheated 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove bread from pan, place on rack, and let cool.
