Ihave a beautiful apricot poodle (8) months old. but when is outside for more then 2 minutes he digs holes.?

I've heard that if you bury their poo in the hole they won't dig there again. You may have to do this several times to each hole he digs until he gets the message.

Someone on here once suggested to build a sandbox, which I thought was a great idea. You can even bury treasures in there for him to find, encouraging him to dig in his "box" and not in your lawn!

Try lengthening his walks, or taking him for a 2nd walk every day, it should help him to burn some energy, he's probably just bored. Getting him neutered might also help to curb this behaviour, not to mention helping to prevent certain cancers!
Reply:Your poodle will grow out of that. Not all dogs will do it, but if they are bored or stressed or don't like being away from you then some dogs will dig to relive that feeling. I have had two dogs that have done that when they were younger, they grew out of the digging when they were about a year and 6 months.
Reply:Try to give him a great toy.. only when he is outside... this will give him something to look forward to and keep him distracted.... good luck!
Reply:he's looking for bones
Reply:He's a puppy! He's probably just bored. Or its his way of exploring. Maybe throw him a ball when your out with him and see if anything changes. Some dog's just dig holes.
Reply:What's your question? Dogs are like that- they dig holes. Some do it because they smell something, some do it to dig a den to bed down in.

Congrats on the poodle-great choice!
Reply:Maybe he is looking for apricots? Or looking to get out and find a girlfriend? Make sure you get him fixed.
Reply:It sounds like your pup is going through his terrible twos. Pups will test their owners to see what they will do. Boredom is most likely another big factor. when dogs get bored they get naughty. Start taking him on longer more frequent walks, and just play with him more.
Reply:tell him no when you find him doing it. if you find a hole, lead him to the hole, show it to him, and tell him no. if you use a stern voice he'll get the picture.
Reply:This is a puppie thingie :) You wouldn't understand :)

There can be many reasons for this behaviour, however...IMHO...take it easy and wait it out.
