What types of fruit trees produce fruit the fastest and which ones are the lowest maintenance?

I live in Southern California and would like to plant perhaps peaches, apricots, apples, lemons perhaps tomatoe vines etc. I would like to have fruit by spring, is this possible? I may start with just one and see how it goes. What tree is the best to start with?

Late fall is the best time, around Halloween or just before. Many fruit trees grow well in the northwest. When I lived there, I grew many varieties. These include... Apple, Cherry, Pear, Plum, and even Peaches in certain areas. Which ever type you choose to grow, make sure you get on some type of spray program to take care of diseases and insects associated with the type you choose. With all the wet spring weather conditions in the Northwest, disease runs rampant... Hope this answers your question.. ... The best time to plant any kind of plant or tree is during months that end with an R such as september, October, november, and december depending where you live. The reason is this gives the roots a chance to attach to the ground before the winter or or dormint months. I read an article that said that any planting you do should be done during the first week of October though. I live in michigan we have cold winters u can plant things here in March when the weather breaks but if you have the same type of weather make sure you have some hay or straw or murch handy incase you experience a low temperatures during the night this helps keep the base warmer. also if you live in a high wind area this will also kill a newly planted tree or bush. If you have have this you will need to shield the plant with something to stop the bitter cold winds. Or just any high winds that will damage the plant or tree.http://www.homegardenguides.com/garden-f...
