What can i do to dry and sensitive skin?

My skin is dry and peels often but its v.v.v.v.v.v. sensitive anything i use (St Ives Apricot Scrub or Clean and Clear) irritates it. does any one have any home remedies i could use? Pls. Help.

What can i do to dry and sensitive skin?
qv wash really works

stop using soap and anything with really powerful active ingredients.

make sure you moisturise everyday

the moisturiser should be oil free and try to get the ones with vitamin e in it

using things with tree tea oil is helpful for sensitive skins

if your skin is dry, try to not take hot baths

keep the water cool
Reply:Switch to a product that is more natural - Aveeno

Berts Bee -

Also for your body use a cocoa gel (Vaseline the brand makes one that is wonderful and great in the shower).

(clear bottle brown top) it's amazing.

** do not use vaseline ever ever ever it's the worst advice and product - it's 100% pure petroleum and dries out skin -

also any cream with mineral oil is the same (baby oil).
Reply:Most, but not all dermatologists avoid E45, this is because it contains lanolin which can act as a potent sensitiser. Different patients seem to respond better to different moisturisers, and anyone with eczema can be allergic to the ingredients of any one of them. It is always a good idea to use both a moisturiser and a matching bath additive/soap substitute/shower gel. Patients with dry skin/eczema should never use standard soap or detergents on their skin, as this both drys it and may trigger the eczema. This can therefore make it worth while looking to your GP for prescriptions, he can also issue moderate quantities for a single prescription charge. In addition if you are in Scotland prescription charges have just reduced to £5 and are to be abolished soon.

However if you are looking for over the counter preparations, here are a number you could try:

Aveeno have a good range of products derived from oats, bad news is you get what you pay for. The shower gel is excellent, best buy I could find for you was from Reach pharmacy at £5.99 for 250mls, and moisturising cream at £5.99 for 100mls. You can get samples at:

http://www.aveeno.com/

An alternative is Infaderm, on http://www.auravita.com Moisturising Bubble Bath is £4.19 for 250mls and the therapeutic oil is £5.95 for 250mls.
Reply:Super-dry skin is a main cause of skin sensitivity. An imbalance in the top layer, which regulates the amount of water in the skin, means that oils and moisture become depleted, therefore there’s less of a barrier between the skin and the outside environment, making it more vulnerable. Firstly, look for fragrance-free products, as fragrance is a common irritant. (The products you've been using are far too abrasive for your skin, as you shouldn't be scrubbing or overwashing your face). When choosing cleanser, toner and moisturiser, stick to the same range. Johnson's 3 in 1 cleansing wipes for Dry and Sensitive Skin are pretty good as they contain vitamin E; plus, using one product for cleansing and toning means less rubbing of the skin (my daughter has sensitive skin and she found these to be very good). Moisturise mornings and evenings with a hypoallergenic moisturiser formulated for dry or sensitive skin - ideally, your daytime moisturiser should also contain a sunscreen of SPF 15, to protect your skin from sun damage and premature aging. With sensitive skin it's often a matter of trial and error, but the main things to remember are: be gentle, use products with the minimum number of ingredients - ie., keep it simple, and avoid using perfumed skin products. Some people are also allergic to lanolin, which is often an ingredient in skincare. My best wishes for a future with smooth and radiant skin!
Reply:Hi, I use Cyclax, COCOA BUTTER from my local chemist shop it sure works for me.

I tried all the top brands of dry skin remedies and at first they worked but then after a few weeks the dryness returned.

My son told me about Cocoa butter, after he had a tattoo, so I tried it and it still works for me after a year. ( I am in The UK and very Old-ish) Good Luck
Reply:Hey [:

I was the same! I stopped using all bought products and let my skin do its own natural thing. Although i still do theses things..

I steam my face once a week and use salt and any face moisturizer as a scrub then wash it off with warm water.

I also use honey as a face mask (although i hate the smell and taste) It leaves my skin hydrated, smooth and really soft. And kills any bacteria on the face.

They ^ both work really well! You will notice a change right away with the honey! [:
Reply:Go to your doctor, you can have really good skincare on prescription. I have the same problem and that is what I do. Ceam and bath oil, specially for this type of skin.

I only wish that I had known to do this years ago, instead of struggling and spending money on stuff that didn't really help.
Reply:Try using plain vaseline petroleum jelly... its very good for dry skin and its smoothes out your skin.. dont apply too much though.. you'll get too shiny or you can also use Johnson's baby oil (apply to wet body straight after having a shower).. Try it you'll be amazed at the results! Good luck!
Reply:baby moisturiser.
