How big is this puppy supposed to be?

I just got an apricot toy poodle yesterday. I feel like he is a little bit too big to be a toy tho, but the lady who sold said he was toy. he is only 2 months old but he weighs 4.85lbs and is kinda big. Before I bought him i saw one that was one and a half months and it was TINY. And I had a toy for 15 years (he recently died, i miss him so much), and i dont remember him being that big at 2 months, what do u think?

How big is this puppy supposed to be?
According to breed standard, set by the AKC, Toy Poodles should be no taller than 10 inches at the highest point of the withers (shoulders). Sizing dogs tends to go more on the height than the weight.

I've seen MANY "Toy" Poodles that are way too big for their name. It may be a Miniature Poodle, which must be 11-15 inches at the withers.
Reply:You should take the dog to the Vet for a full evaluation. This way they can evaluate and confirm the breed, give you a true unbiased estimate of it's size and age. As well as ensure you got the healthy pup you paid for.
Reply:That doesn't sound too big. I mean... a 2-3mo old KITTEN weights 2-3lbs... so almost 5 for a small breed dog isn't that much. Just remember.... just cuz he's a "toy" breed doesn't mean he'll be a particular size... there's still a large variance within the category. For instance, my ex inlaws had poms... which are a toy breed. They varied from 5lb to around 15.

Perhaps a visit to the AKC website would help. Look up the breed standard (to see what size range he SHOULD be)... but again... if it wasn't a reputable breeder with show quality parents, that won't help much either.
Reply:I think you are being lied to. I was. I was told my chihuahua was a teacup. But he turned out to be a fullsize. well actually bigger than that! everybody tells me that hes a little big for a chihuahua and i agree! so theres no telling how big the poodles going to get. But I think its going to be a full size and may turn out to be a teacup. Youll just have to see. I am so sorry for your recent loss.
Reply:its hard to tell with dogs
Reply:I think he will be big and maybe if the breeder has a website you can check and maybe on her website it says she cant guarantee the size!
Reply:It could be a miniature poodle and not a toy poodle. This might be a throwback gene or something if the parents are both toy's...
