Can I put the fruit that falls off my trees in the compost heap?

Do I need to take the pits out or will the heat in the pile kill them? I have plums and apricots dropping right now. I'm canning as much as I can, but my trees are overly abundant this year.

Of course you can. The heat may kill the seeds but if not the seedlings are easy to remove. Can you give some away? I'm sure you can find takers for fruit, unlike zucchini.
Reply:they will make an excellent addition to your compost pile, anything that is bio-degradable can be used in compost
Reply:It will be just fine to put the fruit on the pile. It will take some time for the compost to "kill" the pits. Just keep turning your pile over and that should make the decomposing process go faster.
Reply:Yes, it will add a lot more (meat) to the pile and when it goes thrue the decomposing process it will ferment causing a lot of amazing reactions to happen. Fungus, lichen ect... will grow causing a more friendly place for seeds to grow now and later.
